Industrial robots are automatic controllable, reprogrammable multipurpose manipulators, programmable in three or more
axes in industrial automation applications (after ISO 8373). Industrial robots are the key for flexible manufacturing
and essential for the production of complex devices, cars and instruments with a large variety of different designs.
In industrial robots, optical sensors are wideley used for controlling the manufacturing process.
We describe some optical sensors used in, or in combination with, industrial robots. In such optical sensors, low weight,
high quality optical components are needed. Therefore, the combination of polymer optics and micro-optics
provide excellent solutions.
